Target User: Pet owners with experience in scheduling appointments for their pets. Owners that need of a way to track their pets schedules and want to provide their pet with the best care.


Method (Observation): I individually interviewed multiple pet owners in order to gain knowledge of their experience and hesitations with booking and keeping track of appointments. I made sure to interview a variety of pet owners such as people that own different species or have multiple pets.

An affinity cluster was formed to understand usual issues users could encounter, arising from the challenge in the problem statement. A total of 10 categories were established. These groups included: time, cost, informational, experts, scheduling, reviews, interface, personalization, reminders, and mood. The mood cluster signifies the user’s emotion while interacting with the app. The experts cluster points to the user’s confidence in their current vet or groomer avoiding misunderstandings, while the other group titles communicate their own meaning.

I began brainstorming multiple pages for the prototype. This involved solving the intricacies of showcasing schedules of diverse pets and devising ways to establish a trust relationship between the pet owner and their vet or groomer.

Afterwards, I created a paper prototype based on my ideations. Based off of user responses, I was able to narrow things down to a couple of important pages they need in order to reach their goal. After the creation of this low-fidelity, I conducted a user testing in which I had a few target users test out the prototype. Below are the users responses after testing out the low-fidelity.

I contacted the people I interviewed for this project and had them go through the final prototype. Overall they really enjoyed the outcome! In the future I would make a few more design changes and conduct more user testings to see which style is preferred for my target users.

What I Learned

This project has significantly improved my ability to empathize with users. I learned how their involvement, throughout the project, is important to produce the optimal prototype. Concurrently, this project has improved my proficiency in design - a fresh and unique style for me, thus expanding my design versatility.
